Gay pride or LGBT pride is the promotion of the self-affirmation, dignity, equality, and increased visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people as a social group. Pride, as opposed to shame and social stigma, is the predominant outlook that bolsters most LGBT rights movements. Pride has lent its name to LGBT-themed organizations, institutes, foundations, book titles, periodicals, a cable TV station, and the Pride Library.
Pride Month is currently celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan.

What Is the Pride Symbol?
The rainbow flag — created by artist Gilbert Baker in 1978 — is used as a symbol of LGBTQ pride, but did you know that each colour on the flag has its own meaning? In the widely known six-colour flag, red is symbolic of life, orange is symbolic of spirit, yellow is sunshine, green is nature, blue represents harmony and purple is spirit. In the original eight-colour flag, hot pink was included to represent sex and turquoise to represent magic/art.

How to Support the LGBTQ People in Your Life
Educate yourself
Don’t treat straight and cisgender as the norm
Let them come out in their own time
Don’t stereotype
Never out them to anyone
Don't refer to them as ‘my LGBTQ friend’
In the end remember to try and support the LGBTQ community as much as possible, because love is love and to love is human.
